Trey Parker “Hints” At No DLC For South Park: The Stick of Truth

Trey Parker gave his opinion on turning cut content into paid DLC for the upcoming South Park: The Stick of Truth at a comic-con panel last night. He doesn’t like the idea.

Parker spoke about his inspiration for the game, coming from titles like Skyrim, Earthbound, The Legend of Zelda and Paper Marion. After he fell in love with Skyrim, and the depth and wealth of characters in the world, he decided to give it a go himself. This lead to a script of around 850 pages with “just about every character” and element from South Park.

Naturally, this meant that some content was bound to be cut in order to give the game a realistic release date. Parker goes on to say that he and the creative time behind South Park were “urged” to turn this content into paid DLC, to which his response was “F**k that”.

Rather than turning already written, but cut, content into paid DLC at a later time Parker and Stone are going to use some of the material in the TV show, either in one or multiple episodes.

After my ranty piece the other week about DLC it’s nice t read about someone core to the development cycle is openly expressing a very negative stance on this approach to DLC. It of course doesn’t rule out the possibility of DLC coming for the game in the future, but if the game is a good as it looks the DLC could be very welcome indeed.

The whole story can be found over at Polygon.
