Feral Interactive, alongside publishers Warner Bros., have announced that The Lord of the Rings: War in the North with be released on Mac on the 29th of August this year.

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North takes place in a conflict happening simultaneously as the events of The Return of the King, but further North. It follows the untold story of three characters: Eradan the ranger, Andriel the elf and Farin the dwarf who form their own fellowship to combat the evil hand of Sauron.

Players are given the choice to go it alone, playing as each character in turn, or in a co-operative multiplayer mode. The quest takes players to both new realms of Middle-earth as well as to places such as Rivendell and the Misty Mountains with both new additions to the Lord of the Rings fiction and already established characters. The gameplay is a mixture of action and RPG, with experience being awarded for kills and used to upgrade characters abilities.
